Pea Gravel
Sometimes also referred to as pea rock, pea gravel is one of the most utilitarian landscaping materials available. It has many uses that are both practical and decorative! Pea gravel is usually smooth in texture and is available in several different colors, such as browns, grays, reds and blues, making it very popular for high-traffic areas in backyards and recreational spaces. The smooth texture makes walking on pea gravel comfortable, even barefoot. In addition to being used decoratively for walkways, driveways and flowerbeds, it can be very functionally useful in areas of your landscape that need assistance with water drainage, or for being a foundational layer for underground pipes. This is one of our most versatile materials, and we would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have about it’s practical and decorative applications for your next project!
#57 Stone
This particular type of stone, referred to by the catchy name #57 Stone, is very common in Florida. This rock is both durable and affordable, making it a popular landscaping material. This stone is around ¾” in size and is passed through a square-shaped screen, ensuring that all of the rocks are of a fairly uniform shape and size. This tough, light-colored rock is used largely for landscaping large areas like driveways and parking areas, although it also finds use in walkways, drainage systems, and even as railroad ballast. The fairly large, coarse nature of these stones make them ideal for assisting your landscaping in drainage, greatly reducing the amount of standing water that could collect on your property and damage its value.
Washed Sand
When you desire to create a beach setting in your landscape, or perhaps create an authentic volleyball court, then you’re going to love the washed sand that MJS Materials can offer. Most washed sand is comprised of silica rock (although not always) and is very fine in texture. This sand is made even finer by being washed to remove excess salt, silt, clay, dust and collected powder. Once the sand has been washed, it can be separated out into different grain sizes, depending on what application you have in mind. This abundant material is incredibly useful for landscaping large recreational areas, like volleyball courts or playgrounds, but can also be very very functional. This sand is fine enough that many stonemasons use it when creating mortar for bricklaying!
